The Board of Trustees for the Frisco Independent School District (Frisco ISD) has approved a proposed change to the Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation for dual credit classes. The decision, which was made during their regular meeting in April, will affect students graduating in 2030.

In an announcement by Frisco ISD, it was revealed that the trustees voted 4-2 in favor of including dual credit courses in the 6.0 weighted GPA. This modification will have implications for current sixth graders across district schools.

The board had previously reviewed this proposal during a presentation at its March meeting. According to the same announcement, feedback was gathered from both the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council and the District Advisory Council’s Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum Committee. "Stakeholder feedback is instrumental in FISD’s decision-making process, and officials are grateful to those who shared their concerns as the proposal was weighed," stated Frisco ISD.

The approved change alters the GPA scale as follows: Tier I (5.0) includes on-level courses; Tier II (5.5) encompasses eligible advanced courses, eligible project lead-the-way courses, independent study and mentorship, academic decathlon, and other courses designated in the course catalog; while Tier III (6.0) covers advanced placement, international baccalaureate, and dual credit.
